Driving Test Manoeuvre - Pull Up On The Right

August 17, 2018

We're still seeing a number of people have issues with us when we are practicing one of the manoeuvres for the current driving test.

Since 4th December 2017, the UK driving test has included pulling up on the right, reversing for approximately two car lengths and then moving off when safe to do so.

We, like the majority of other driving instructors, will practice this manoeuvre in locations we know the DVSA are asking candidates to carry out the manoeuvre.

Locations include (and there may be others):

Bridge of Don: Jesmond Drive, Laurel Drive, Grandholm Drive, Balgownie Drive and Scotstown Road

Cove: Cove Road, Langdykes Road, Old Wellington Road

Do we agree with these locations? Possibly not.

Do you ever pull up on the right hand side of the road? Many people do, but there's a reason - e.g. going into shops. We wouldn't choose to pull on - on the left or right - in some of the above locations, but as this is where the DVSA are asking candidates to do so then we're going to get our pupils used to these locations so they can safely perform the manoeuvre.

If anyone has any concerns about this manoeuvre, please contact the DVSA: customerservices@dvsa.gov.uk or phone 0300 200 1122.

Don't take it out on the instructor or their pupil. We're just doing what we need to prepare our customers for their driving test.
